Natural Moisturizing Hair Mask

My hair is obviously in need of a bit of extra tender loving care since it has been coloured a few times, straightened, permed, and of course, exposed to the sun but do you know my secret of keeping my hair soft, healthy and beautiful? Forget about expensive spa treatments and commercial products filled with mysterious chemicals and artificial ingredients. Instead, I mix up my own moisturizing hair mask made from wholesome, natural ingredients in my own kitchen and I will share with you on exactly how to do it.

Basically, we need FIVE main ingredients and using only FIVE steps.

STEP ONE:
Mash the banana in a bowl. You can use only half of a banana if your hair is short. You could use up to one and a half of banana or two if you have thick and long hair.

STEP TWO:
Once the banana is mashed, crack open an egg and add into the bowl and whip.

STEP THREE:
Now add two tablespoons of honey. You can use either dark honey, light honey or any kind of honey you have. I use Capilano,an imported pure and natural honey from Australia. I bought it for only RM 12.99 from Speedmart.

STEP FOUR:
Add one and a half tablespoon of plain yogurt into the mixture. I bought my plain yogurt at Speedmart for only RM 5.90. If you don't have plain yogurt, you can substitute it with four tablespoons of milk, any kind of milk will do.

STEP FIVE:
Add in five tablespoons of olive oil. You can use extra virgin olive oil, or any normal olive oil. Pure olive oil that I use is composed of refined olive oils and virgin olive oils. I can't remember how much I bought this olive oil and where because it has been in my kitchen for quite some time.

Stir all of the ingredients nicely and... wallah! There you go, your natural moisturizing hair mask. Simple, right?

TIPS:
1) Before applying the hair mask onto your wet hair (not dripping wet), divide your hair into six sections so you can easily and evenly apply the mask. Then massage the mask onto your scalp, wrap it with a shower cap then leave it on for about 30 minutes. Wash it off with your regular shampoo and conditioner.

2) It's best to wash your hair with lukewarm water because it won't cause hair loss or hair damage like hot water would do.

3) Make sure you don't shampoo your hair everyday. Even though it sounds gross but excessive hair washing doesn't only wash away dirt, it washes out the hair's protective oil (sebum) too. Washing your hair two or three times a week is advisable.
Additional info: Even if you have oily hair, it is not advisable for you to wash your hair everyday because you will wash away the sebum which then it will need to produce excessive amount of sebum in order to make up for the previous loss.

4) Treat your hair to a moisturizing mask every other week or even just once a month.

5) Use a mild shampoo and a quality conditioner which consists of natural ingredients such as oils, honey, and shear butter instead of sulfates and alcohol because it can act harshly on your hair, leaving it damaged and dry. Example of a mild shampoo and conditioner is Rainforest Moisture Shampoo and Rainforest Moisture Conditioner from Body Shop for only RM 45.00 each.

6) You can substitute your conditioner with a mayonnaise from time to time because mayonnaise is an excellent conditioner which can reconstruct extremely dry and damaged hair. Leave it on for five minutes to an hour before washing out.

7) Replace the banana with avocado once in a while to treat brittle hair and split ends.

I hope that my home remedy and all these tips can help solve your dry and damaged hair problem and finally get you a softer, shinier, and healthier beautiful hair that you've always dreamed of! Good luck, ladies!
